Welcome to HCIC
Hood Canal Improvement Club (HCIC) is a social civic organization founded for the benefit of the Hood Canal community. HCIC is proud to be the stewards and owners of the Dalby Waterwheel thanks to the many hands who have helped to preserve it over the years. Did you know that the Dalby Waterwheel provided the first electricity to the area 100 years ago?! To celebrate, we hosted a community event on Sun, Aug 13, 2023 from 1-4pm honoring the Waterwheel with a 100th Birthday Party. We hope you continue to stop by the Waterwheel to take photos with you and your family!

Our Club Meet-Ups are typically held at the Union Fire Hall on the first Tuesday of the month from 5:30-7PM, however holidays and special events may require us to reschedule, so please see our events calendar for the exact venue, dates and times. The address for the Union Fire Hall is 50 E Seattle St, Union, WA 98592. Club Meet-Ups always have complimentary refreshments from 5:30-6PM, followed by HCIC's program (featured speaker series, ice cream social, picnic, annual report, etc).
Presently, our emphasis is community, “people of common interested living in a particular area." With the increase in population on the Canal, the Club is putting more emphasis on the social aspect of renewing our area as well as being good stewards. We have a dedicated Board and our membership is growing, but in order to be of benefit, we need to communicate. A big piece of our marketing plan for 2025 will be focusing on communication and information through branding, social media and this new website.
Hood Canal has a rich history, both economically and artistically. Union was originally established to promote logging and the seafood industry. When the resources shifted, the area focused on art and tourism. Orre Noble, among others, were instrumental in forming an artisan colony in the Union area that still exists today! Our Club continues to embrace local artisans, individuals and leaders. We would love your enthusiasm and ideas on how to support them more. Together, let's establish a committee to develop an Art Walk or revitalize the Union City Music Festival in 2025? We need YOU!
HCIC has many civic interests as well, such as: beautification, safety, recreation (Union Community Park and Union's boat launch) and promoting a healthy environment. Stay informed and connected with our NEW Speaker Series focusing on pertinent community topics like shellfish harvesting, gardening tips and conservation. Other activities include our Friendraisers (fundraising opportunities), Holiday and Community Markets and social events like the Union Reunion picnic at the Alderbrook tennis courts. The Club is open to all, however we do request that you show your commitment by becoming a member.
Membership dues are $15 per individual/$25 per family (2 votes)
We believe our community can embrace who they are,
can define their future, and can change the world.
